Are you Tasty, or Pasty?
1 Peter 5:8
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [ in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
Are you devourably tasty to the devil as he eagerly watches you seeking some sign that indicates he can devour you?
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
2 Peter 2:4
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2 Corinthians 11:14
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
1 Peter 1:12
They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.
The devil is an angel, he is not God, nor does he carry the capacities of God. He is not omniscient, omnipresent, or all knowing. He is an angel, made lower than redeemed man.
Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].
The mind of the flesh can produce thoughts, then words, then actions that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God(His word). Satan watches your words and actions, how you respond to situations and how you deal with circumstances, to see whether you can be seized upon and devoured. Do you look tasty to him or does your “flesh” look pasty and sickly to him?
Your sin nature does not exist anymore, your mortal body has been quickened by the indwelling Holy Spirit. Adam sinned without having a sin nature, yours is gone also as a new creation. The carnal unrenewed mind is the origin of sinful things in the new creation. That is why we are commanded to renew the mind. The mind of the spirit is the one that takes every thought captive to the Word and brings the potential resulting words and actions into obedience to the words of Christ. When you abide in the mind of the Spirit, your words and actions express Life and that causes your “flesh” to look pasty to the devil. When your words and actions produce carnality your “flesh” looks devourably delicious to the devil.
Deny yourself the opportunity to cross the will of God with your will, and follow Christ. Abide in Christ and you will look pasty to the devil and he will leave you alone because there is no reason to devour you.
