Knowledge of Him

Matthew 14: 35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; 36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

The modern Christian body has knowledge of many things. We know how to play instruments. We know how to run businesses. We know how to psychoanalyze. We know how to refer other Christians to secular agencies. We know how to speak effectively. We know how to advertise.

We know how to build buildings. We know how to organize denominations.

We know how to make people laugh and make them cry and make them tithe.  We know how to make them comfortable and we know how to make them members of the denominations we’ve organized. We can do anything!

Except what is commanded of us clearly in scripture.

And in it all we’ve lost the knowledge of him.  How can I say this?

Look at the things we as a body don’t know how to do.  We don’t know how to love as Christ loved. We don’t know how to walk as He walked, or rest as He rested, or work as He worked. We haven’t taken His mind, who being in the very nature God, humbled himself to serve the very ones He created.

And look at the condition of the Church. Powerless. Ineffective.

Physically weak. Spiritually watered-down. Mentally indistinguishable from the unsaved. White-washed. If we had knowledge of Him, they would send out into the country around about us, and bring all that were diseased, then, as they touch Jesus Christ in us, they would be made perfectly whole.

Forget they way you’ve been conditioned. You aren’t a Protestant. You aren’t a Pentecostal. You aren’t a Baptist. You aren’t a Lutheran. You are a disciple of the risen Christ, a child of a King who deserves every ounce of allegiance you have, with none left over for the organization of man. Let us together commit to being only what the Word says of us.

Nothing more. Nothing less. And in the end we will be like Him.
