John 31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Do you feel it? The braces that hinder the very soul of the Church. When we should be running, we stagger. Where we should be leading, we falter. While we should be reconciling the world, we instead drive them away. Why are we not free indeed, or free in deeds?
Somewhere, sometime, we placed ourselves into bondage (either to the law or to sin), and only an encounter with the truth can set us free. We see Jesus identify himself as this truth in verse 36 here. Jesus sets you free! Continue in Christ, abiding always in His grace and truth, and you will soon find the braces which held you back shattered, and in all things you will run like the wind blows.
